“Having a Sleep Study made me a new person.â€

Before having a sleep study, Kathy's sleep problems were not only becoming to her own life, but her family's as well.

She was falling asleep more than usual and had begun to even doze off at reds lights during long road trips.  Her loud snoring was also posing a big problem.

For the past ten years, her symptoms had gradually worsened.  Her energy level had greatly decreased and began suffering from depression.  Her memory, especially short term, was also deteriorating, which started to scare her daughter and she would often check on her mother in the middle of the night.

It never really occurred to Kathy that lack of sleep could be the root of the problem.

After an appointment with her physician, he suggested she get a sleep study.  The study showed Kathy was suffering from sleep apnea, which is a disorder that causes individuals to stop breathing during their sleep, often multiple times throughout the night.

Even after trying a breathing machine and a few other treatments, Kathy's sleep problems still persisted.  She felt like giving up and decided just to accept the fact that she would always suffer from a sleep disorder.

But her physician convinced her otherwise, suggesting another sleep study, but with a different machine.  She agreed and has seen outstanding results ever since.

Kathy's stay at the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />SleepDisordersCenter was a positive experience.

“The staff was right on the ball,†she said.  “The techs are great and have an excellent bedside manner.â€

She added staff members were helpful when trying on different sleep masks and catered to her individual needs.

They also helped her to obtain her own breathing machine in a timely manner.  Her test was on a Tuesday and they had it to her by that Friday.

“The atmosphere is very comforting,†said Kathy.  “There is a telephone so that you can call your family, you have your own television, and you can even bring your own pillow and pajamas.â€

“Having a sleep study made me a new person,†said Kathy.

Kathy's energy levels have greatly increased and her memory has also improved.  Now after only four hours of good sleep, she is ready to get up and go do things.

Being that sleep apnea runs in her family, she is currently trying to convincer her siblings to get sleep studies – as they all also suffer from sleep problems.

Her advice to others who feel they may be experiencing a sleep disorder is to get a sleep study.

“Go. Don't hesitate having a sleep study,†she said.  “It's not a bad experience.â€
