Community Care Center Celebrates Halloween

November 8, 2012

Alliance Community Hospital (ACH) Community Care Center (CCC) residents had a hauntingly good time during their October celebrations.

They held a decorated pumpkin contest in which voters donated food items as a way of casting votes for their favorite pumpkins. The food items were donated to the Alliance area food bank.

On October 16, residents put on their costumes to enjoy a spooktacular Halloween Bash with some special friends from the Union Avenue Preschool. The party consisted of voting for the favorite staff decorated pumpkin (the Cookie Monster pumpkin was the favorite in the bunch!), playing games and enjoying some Halloween refreshments.

The pet therapy pets joined the festivities on October 28th, for a pet parade and costume contest. Costume categories included: Cutest, Funniest, Most Original, Best in Show, Best Team Costume, Scariest and Best Homemade Costume. Residents had a hard time choosing their favorites as all the dogs were adorable. Trophies were given out to the winners.

“This is a very exciting time of year for our residents,” said Lori Underwood, CCC Activity Director. “Through their activities, they are trying to remain involved in the community.”

Upcoming events at the CCC include an annual Resident/Family Thanksgiving Dinner on November 9th and an Annual Craft show on November 30, from 8:00AM - 4:00PM. The Craft Show will feature a variety of baskets and bobbles suited for everyone’s tastes and shopping pleasures. Vendors will be set up in the main Activity Room as well as the West Activity Room. The Residents will have a raffle table set up during the event to raise money for their Christmas Party in December.

“As the Thanksgiving holiday rolls around, our residents are reflecting on their blessings,” said Underwood. “Residents look forward to carrying on traditions from years ago with their own families and with their family at the CCC.”

In anticipation of the Christmas Season, residents are collecting gently used coats for the COATS FOR CHRISTMAS campaign. If anyone has coats that have been outgrown, or are no longer used, please bring them to the Community Care Center. All sizes are welcome. Do not worry about having the coats cleaned, as there are dry cleaners offering to clean the coats after they are collected.
