Blood Drive in Memory of Lee Samblanet

March 5, 2010

“Lee was full of life!  He loved to be in the company of others.  He never met a person he didn't like,†shares Lee Samblanet's father and mother, Tom and Brenda Samblanet.

While fighting an 8-year battle against a rare form of cancer, primitive neuroectodermal tumor, Lee and his family experienced first hand the critical part blood donations play in the treatment of devastating diseases.

“Family, friends, medical personnel and strangers all came together for Lee through many blood donations.  During the years, we lost count of how many units of blood and blood products Lee was given.  We only know they were then when he needed them.â€

And as a tribute to Lee's courageous battle, which he lost on June 27, 2007, his family and friends are hosting their third annual blood drive in his memory at the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />AllianceCommunityHospital on Thursday, March 11th.  The hours for the drive are 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

The community is encouraged to support this drive, and can do so by calling Brenda at 330-525-7397 to schedule an appointment.  “On Lee's behalf, we urge others to donate blood, platelets and to designate themselves as an organ donor.  This is the ultimate tribute to a young man who strived to live.â€

Donors must be at least 16 years of age, or if they provide a permission slip from a parent/guardian, they can donate at age 16.  Individuals must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health.  A photo ID or donor card must also be presented at the time of the donation.

“We know that without the hundreds of donors who made it possible for Lee to be with us those eight additional years, our memories would be cut short.  We know he would not have lived one day more if someone had given him a million dollars instead of their time and blood.â€

Alliance Grinders Above and Beyond is also supporting this drive by providing savings coupons for their restaurant to all donors.
