ACH Remembers 9.11.01

September 9, 2011

On Friday, September 9th, dozens of staff members, volunteers and visitors of Alliance Community Hospital gathered around its massive external flagpole in remembrance of the victims and heroes of the terrorist attacks on America on September 11, 2001.

The flag was lowered to half-staff and a brief but poignant ceremony was highlighted by an enthusiastic contingent of musicians from the brass section of the University of Mount Union’s marching band. Under the direction of Jonathan E. Willis, UMU’s Director of Bands, the all-brass group performed moving renditions of “America, the Beautiful” and “God Bless America.”

ACH Vice President of Patient Care Services, Amy Antonacci, RN, BSN, delivered a short address about peace and consolation entitled “The Prayer of St. Francis.”

“We wanted to take a few moments out of our busy work day to stop and reflect on the impact that day had on all of us – and all of America,” said Connie Poulton, SPHR and Vice President of Colleague Relations for the hospital.

“We came together not to relive the horror of 9.11 but to remember the bravery and unity which resulted from the tragedy of that day,” she said.

“Our community, just like every other around the nation and the world, was impacted by the events of that day and we felt it was only fitting to stop and honor those heroes who put the needs of others first during that horrific time. Their selflessness is something to truly be admired and mirrored,” Poulton said.

The ceremony concluded with the playing of the Star Spangled Banner.

Members of the UMU band performing at the ceremony included:
Trumpet = Steve Roshong, Andrew Whitman, Erin Miller. French Horn = Allison Barnhard, Katy Borland. Baritone = Lindsey Nicholson. Trombone = Joe Cetina, Sean Eppler, Jonathon Willis.
