ACH holds annual Sports Symposium

July 3, 2013

Alliance Community Hospital's Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine hosted its second annual Sports Symposium on June 17. The free seminar provided the education on a variety of topics including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CRP) and Pupil Activity First Aid Class, both of which are required to coach high school sports.

"As part of our commitment to local student athletes, I am pleased Alliance Community Hospital's Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Program was able to offer free certification and education for area high school coaches on many important topics," said Eric Murray, MBA, PT, vice president of administration. "In addition to the required CPR and first aid, we were also able to present education on heat-related illness, concussion and the newly legislated law (House Bill 143) establishing concussion management protocol."

The seminar was attended by 26 area high school and middle school coaches.

Eric O'Brien, PT, MS, OCS, orthopaedic and sports medicine coordinator, said the seminar was well received by the coaches. "The knowledge on concussion management and legal considerations of House Bill 143 were very valuable and beneficial to the schools that attended," he said.
