ACH Earns Excellent Marks from Consumer Reports Health Ratings Center

Alliance, OH - According to the latest report published by CONSUMER REPORTS HEALTH, Alliance Community Hospital (ACH) has a rating of EXCELLENT in the following categories: Nurse/Patient Communication, Room Cleanliness, and Blood Stream Infections.

 “We are thrilled but unsurprised by these findings.  We strive for excellence in all that we do and having a nationally-renowned health ratings agency confirming our efforts is very gratifying,” said Amy Antonacci, RN BSN, Vice President of Nursing Services of ACH.

 The results of the report were published earlier this month.  A full breakdown of hospital ratings can be found at www.ConsumerReportsHealth.org.

 John Santa M.D., director of the Consumer Reports Health Ratings Center (CRHRC) explained the process by which hospitals are rated by the center.  “Our ratings come from scientifically based data on patient experience and outcomes gathered from public sources. Some of that information is available in other formats. For example, you can see the federal government's version of patient experience and readmissions data on its Hospital Compare website.”

 “Similarly, a number of states report data on hospital-acquired infections. But our site is the only source that collects all the data in one place and summarizes it in an easy-to-interpret format,” he said.

 Dr. Santa said CRHRC publishes its hospital ratings report to allow consumers to compare hospitals in any given area in the U.S.  “Our hospital ratings help people to compare hospitals based on patient experience and patient outcomes,” he said.

He said CRHRC ratings have been statistically adjusted to minimize differences among hospitals due to the types of patients they serve.

“For example, scores for bloodstream infections and surgical-site infections were adjusted based on where the patients were treated (which intensive-care unit, for example) and type of surgery. Scores related to the chance of readmission and patient experiences were also adjusted based on the health status of patients,” said Dr. Santa.

“This is only one source of hospital ratings but we are encouraged by these results, particularly as we continue our unending quest to provide the finest quality in our health care services,” said Antonacci.
