ACH Blood Drive Supports Giving in Two Ways

December 2, 2008

Area residents are asked to seriously consider making a blood donation at the monthly ACH blood drive on Thursday, December 11th from 12 noon to 5:45 p.m.

“Traditionally, this is one time during the year when the donation base dwindles.  And it is also the time of year that blood and blood products tend to be in greater demand.  We have a real commitment to support our blood drives throughout the year, but especially during the holiday season.  What better gift is there to give than to give the gift of life to a friend, family member or complete stranger?†asks Marcy Todd, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />

ACH Blood Drive
committee member.

“We are encouraging our community residents to step up and support this blood drive.  Our goal is 44 productive units, and to reach that goal, we need approximately 54 potential donors.â€

And the giving doesn't stop with the blood drive!  ACH is sponsoring a coat drive for those individuals in our community who may not have the means to purchase a warm winter coat.  Donors can also be part of this wonderful outreach project.

“A large receptacle will be placed near the blood drive registration table.  We invite our community to bring in gently used or new winter coats, hats, gloves and boots.  It doesn't matter what the size, color or style is – we just want to be able to provide warm winter outer ware for our community.â€

A hospital colleague will take all of the coats gathered by ACH colleagues and the community to the Salvation Army on December 15th for distribution to area residents.

“The needs are great in our area.  Whether it is for blood and blood products or just a warm winter coat, we are inviting the community to join together during this season of thanks and giving.â€

Donors will also have the incentive of winning airline fare to anywhere in the US, courtesy of Continental Airlines and the American Red Cross.  All donors between now and the end of the year will have their names entered into a drawing for this prize.

Donors may schedule their own appointment by going online at or by calling the hospital volunteer office, 330-596-7822 or 330-596-7822 and the staff will schedule a donor appointment.  Donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh no less than 110 pounds and be able to provide a picture ID at the time of registration.
