ACH Announces “Viability and Job Protection Plan”

<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />AllianceCommunityHospital has announced that the ACH Executive Team and all Director-level leaders will take voluntary pay reductions beginning in April.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />


ACH CEO Stan Jonas hosted open forums for management and staff members on Friday, February 27th to unveil the hospital's “Viability and Job Protection Plan,†which includes the pay reduction and other cost-savings initiatives.


“This is a plan conceived of hope and promise, with the combined objectives of identifying opportunities for streamlining and improving services while avoiding layoffs for 2009,†said Jonas.  He said that the hospital is committed to proactively shaving costs while also protecting the jobs of its valuable employees, a concept he hopes will continue throughout this year and beyond.


The leadership team at ACH will take the equivalent of a 2.6% pay reduction effective April 1. 


Though this initiative is in its infancy, the hospital ultimately seeks to affect $2 million worth of changes toward the bottom line through its contingency planning.


“We know that it is incumbent upon us all to make contributions to get through these tough times. We are only at the head of this initiative and intend to roll out many such changes,†said Jonas.


Jonas has issued a challenge to the entire staff of the hospital, soliciting innovative cost-savings suggestions and ideas for enhanced services.  He said that he's amazed by the willingness of so many ACH colleagues, physicians and even volunteers to try to help find ways of donating money and time to hospital programs and services.


“I have instructed the management team to go back to their departments and open the lines of communication with their staff members so that every idea, every voice will be heard in our quest to secure our strong clinical and financial position in the marketplace,†he said.


And Jonas is doing more than just seeking helpful notions; he is practicing what he preaches.  In the interest of leading by example, Jonas took a voluntary 7% pay reduction, effective January 1.  The management team may be required to take further reductions.


“These are difficult economic times locally, nationally and even globally and ACH is not exempt from their financial impact.  We are working together to ensure that we retain our clinical excellence and quality of services while simultaneously preserving a secure financial foundation,†he said.


And the troops are already brainstorming.


“Some of the cost-savings initiatives already suggested include limited reduction to company pension matches, voluntary rescinding of vacation days and increased voluntary community outreach initiatives,†Jonas said.


The response reinforces Jonas' belief that ACH is comprised of an extraordinary group of individuals.


“ACH is a very caring place with a spirit that not only focuses on those whom we serve but also concentrates on the needs of co-workers, colleagues and acquaintances. These tough times are uniting us more than ever,†he said.
