Senior Care Unit

Aging sometimes presents challenges that older adults find difficult to overcome. The loss of lifetime companions, decreased physical and mental capabilities and the resulting loss of independence can be overwhelming.

When these losses lead to confusion, depression or other types of behavioral problems, additional help may be needed. With effective therapy, medications and coping skills, independence can be maintained or improved to provide a more satisfying lifestyle.

Alliance Community Hospital’s Senior Care Unit deals with the challenges of aging and provides a 10-bed unit staffed with a team of professionals trained to deal with these specific issues.

Alliance Community Hospital's Senior Care Unit continues to adapt to the needs of the community. The name of the unit often makes people mistake it for a senior nursing facility rather than an acute hospital setting, the unit is a psychiatric unit -- and not just for the retired population.

Warning signs that may indicate a need for treatment at the Senior Care Unit include:

  • Disorientation
  • Depression
  • Severe memory loss
  • Hallucinations
  • Increased social withdrawal
  • Suicidal thoughts or behaviors
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Extreme fluctuations in weight
  • Loss of interest in appearance or self care
  • Agitation
  • Anxiety
  • Poor concentration
  • Prolonged grieving

For more information, call the Senior Care Unit at 330-596-7650.

Shape up your Sinuses

April 16, 2014

Dr. David Kanagy, an otolaryngologist with the Alliance Community Medical Foundation, is offering sinus sufferers some relief using an in-office balloon sinuplasty procedure. In the last year, Kanagy became one of the only doctors in a six-county area to begin doing the procedure in the office under local anesthesia, which means no sedation, no IV, no gowns, and no visit to the hospital's surgical department.
