Each month a “Ventures in Volunteering†orientation program is held at the hospital to introduce potential volunteers to the mechanics of hospital volunteering. It is a mandatory program that covers everything from Planetree hospital concepts to patient confidentiality to the benefits associated with volunteering at ACH.
Todd described ACH volunteers as a very determined and diversified group.
“Whether they are baking cookies, discharging patients, offering Soft Touch hand-massage treatments, assisting patrons in the Gift Shop or simply holding a patient's hands, our volunteers take their commitment very seriously and take great pride in the services they provide,†said Marcia Todd, Coordinator of Volunteer Services at ACH.
“They are more than willing to tackle a challenge and embrace the opportunity to make a positive difference in another's life,†she said.
Todd listed assisting with financial projects, conducting pet therapy visits and providing research information as some of the other ways ACH volunteers serve hospital patients, visitors and colleagues. She said volunteers will find the ACH volunteer program diversified and challenging.
“We work with each volunteer's talents, skills and schedule when placing him/her in a service area. With more than 40 service areas to choose from, we are confident that we can provide every volunteer in a position they will find both fulfilling and meaningful,†said Todd.
Please call the volunteer department at 330-596-7822 or 330-596-7821 with questions or to make reservations, since reservations for the orientation session are required. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.
