Demolition of old emergency room to begin in next two days
Alliance Community Hospital has announced that demolition of the old emergency room, located on the south side of the old hospital building, on the corner of Rice Street and Arch Avenue, will begin in the next two days.
As crews work to raze that portion of the building, there may be intermittent closures of Rice Street on the Arch Avenue side. Susan Lucas, director of public relations/foundation, said during those closures there will be access to Rice Street via the Union Avenue side.
The demolition process began earlier this month with the removal of environmental hazards from the inside of the building. It will likely continue through summer before construction begins on a new building that will house the Alliance campus of Stark State College. The hospital has asked that community members respect the fences and keep at a distance during the demolition process.
