Aultman Alliance Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency

The Aultman Alliance Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency is a 36-month podiatric medicine and surgery program with an emphasis on surgical forefoot and rearfoot reconstructive training. Established in 1996, the program is Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) accredited.

The podiatric medicine and surgery residency program is based out of Aultman Alliance Community Hospital in Alliance, Ohio. Residents take call at Aultman Alliance Community Hospital and cover surgical and office-based cases with approximately 30 different attendings at multiple physicians’ offices and hospitals in the Akron/Canton area, as well as Dover and Wooster.

The program prepares residents to excel at office-based practices and to be confident and competent surgeons for all conditions of the foot and ankle. The podiatric medicine and surgery residency program instills a sense of autonomy, training residents to function independently.

David Bishop, D.P.M., directs the program. A native of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Dr. Bishop spent six years in the U.S. Army with a combat deployment to Afghanistan before attending Kent State University for his undergraduate studies. Dr. Bishop graduated from the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine in 2017 and completed his residency at Aultman Alliance Community Hospital.

Dr. Bishop is proud to continue the legacy of Leslie Niehaus, D.P.M., who successfully founded and continuously improved the residency program over his 26 years as residency director. Dr. Bishop takes the education of the residents very personally and enjoys watching their growth and development from the first day of residency to the last day before graduation.
