Honoring Our Military Men and Women

On Friday, May 28th, a special blood drive will be held at Alliance Community Hospital to honor those men and women who have made our freedom possible.

The drive will be held in conference room 1-A from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

“The Memorial Day weekend end is the perfect time to say “thank you” to those individuals who have chosen to defend our country so that we can enjoy the many freedoms America offers,” states Michele Quinn, volunteer department assistant at the hospital.

“My husband served in Dessert Storm, and I can tell you first hand of the sacrifices these men and women make for each of us.  The loss of family time, injuries and health issues that will last his lifetime, Post Traumatic Stress disorder, missing out on important events like our daughter’s first steps and first birthday – these are all things that we can never recapture.”

“But my husband, along with thousands of other veterans, felt the call to defend America and all it stands for.  Any way we can honor them or “give back” just makes sense.  I encourage everyone to make the effort to donate blood on May 28th as a way of saying “thank you” and of giving back.”

Donors must be at least 17 years of age (unless a parent/guardian has provided a signed release for a 16-year old), weigh no less than 110 pounds and be in general good health the day of the donation.  A picture ID or blood donor card is also required at registration.

Appointments are encouraged, although donors can contact the volunteer department at the hospital and the staff will be happy to schedule an appointment for individuals.  The phone number is 330-596-7822 or 330-596-7821.

All donors will receive a special t-shirt from the American Red Cross, as well as a meal ticket for the hospital’s Café and a coupon for local McDonalds.
