It only takes an hour of time to make a huge difference in another’s life. And that can be accomplished simply by donating blood.
Right now, there is a shortage of productive units of blood in northeast Ohio, which includes our community. Due to the extreme weather conditions the southern part of the country has experienced in recent weeks, there is a shortage in many other areas of the United States. And then when you add the horrendous medical needs in Haiti, the reasons to donate blood speak for themselves.
On Thursday, February 11th, the monthly ARC/ACH blood drive will be held in conference room 1-A from 12 noon until 6 p.m. “We desperately need donors! The needs right now are overwhelming, and we cannot impress enough on our community the difference an hour of their time and a unit of blood will make for another individual,” shares Michele Quinn, ACH blood drive committee member.
Donors must be in general good health, weigh no less than 110 pounds, be at least 16 years of age and able to provide a photo ID at the time of their donation.
The ACH blood drive committee is sponsoring the February 11 drive by offering a Valentine’s Day basket filled with items for a romantic evening. All donors will be entered in a raffle drawing for the basket.
“Each unit of blood has the capacity of making a difference for three individuals. Given the extreme need for blood right now, we are asking our community to step up and help to make a big difference for the community, our country and Haiti.”
