Alliance, OH - The Urgent Care Association of America (UCAOA) has established the week of November 10th - 14th as the inaugural celebration of Urgent Care Awareness Week, with November 12 being designated as Urgent Care Awareness Day.
The goal of UCAOA Awareness Week is to help educate the public about urgent care facilities and how such centers can serve some of the healthcare needs of their families.
Urgent Care centers provide walk-in, extended hour medical care for minor and acute illness and injury that is either beyond the scope or availability of the typical primary care practice or retail clinic, and in a more cost-effective and efficient way than a standard emergency department. With over-crowded emergency rooms and the rise in healthcare costs, urgent care is a valuable component of the healthcare system that should be utilized over the emergency room whenever possible.
Medical care in urgent care centers includes treatment for conditions such as cuts and lacerations, sprains/strains, colds, fever, flu, insect bites, ear infections, rashes, back aches, vomiting and diarrhea, stomach aches, simple fractures, and many other illnesses that are not life or limb threatening. Life-threatening conditions should ALWAYS be treated in the emergency room.
The UCAOA is a membership association for the urgent care industry. UCAOA provides educational programs in clinical care and practice management, sponsors urgent care Fellowship Programs, funds groundbreaking industry research, publishes a monthly Journal of Urgent Care Medicine and maintains an active website and online Forum for daily exchange of best practices. UCAOA provides leadership, education and resources for the successful practice of urgent care for its members.
